SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The No. 18 Broncos went 3-0 over the weekend picking up two conference wins over Fresno Pacific and the University of Pacific and a Senior Day win over Cal State East Bay. The Broncos are now 13-10.
Up first, the Broncos traveled down to Fresno to play against conference rival Fresno Pacific. Off an earned ejection, Julia Peters converted the man-up opportunity for the Broncos first goal of the game. The Broncos had a few more man-up opportunities but were unable to convert. In the final seconds of the first quarter, Laura Burtness found the back of the net to make it a 2-0 Bronco advantage.
In their senior day game, the Broncos faced off against old conference rival Cal State East Bay. After both missing opportunities, Peters found the back of the net for the first goal of the game. The Pioneers followed up with a goal to tie the game one all. With a goal by Surber and one by the Pioneers, the first quarter ended 2-2.
The Pioneers took the lead in the beginning of the second, scoring two goals, 4-2. In a man-up opportunity, Surber converted to bring the Broncos within one, 4-3. Eadington followed up with another Broncos goal to tie the game 4-4. Eadington earned an ejection that was converted by Peters to give the Broncos the 5-4 advantage. The Pioneers put in one more goals and tied the game back up at 5-5 going into half.
The Pioneers took the lead, but Burtness scored to keep the game tied, 6-6. Peters earned an ejection that allowed Eadington to convert and give the Broncos a one-goal advantage, 7-6. The Pioneers earned an ejection for a man-up opportunity but Peters stifled their possession with a big shot block to end the quarter 7-6.
Peters kept the Broncos momentum up, scoring a goal to open up the fourth quarter. Jenny Anderson put in her first goal of the game to give the Broncos the 9-6 lead. The Pioneers scored three goals but two goals by Surber maintained the Broncos lead, 11-9. The Pioneers put in one final goal but Murphy sealed the deal for the Broncos with one last goal. The Broncos sent their seniors off with the 12-10 victory over the Pioneers.
