Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball – Jake Putnam
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the eighth member of its incoming recruiting class for the 2019-20 season, Jake Putnam.  The 6-foot-5 Putnam comes from San Ramon Valley High in Danville, California, where he was ranked as the 22nd best right-handed pitcher in California by Perfect Game who also named him second-team preseason All-American in 2018.

Putnam joins prep battery mate, catcher Michael O'Hara, who signed with the Broncos last month.

"Coach Filter and the coaching staff are the key reasons why I chose Santa Clara University," said Putnam.  "His knowledge and experience as a pitching coach, combined with his passion for the game, and commitment to his players is going to make SCU a top baseball program in the West Coast Conference.  Santa Clara University has a strong academic reputation that will set me up for life after baseball.  The campus is beautiful with state-of-the art resources.  The class size and student-to-teacher ratio provides a great interactive learning environment.  It will also be great to be close to home so my family can come watch me play.  I'm honored to be a part of SCU and looking forward to the next four years as a Bronco with my teammates and coaches."

Putnam was selected to the 2017 Oakland Athletics Area Code Underclass Team and has been part of the North Coast Section Distinguished Scholastic team for three years running.

"Jake is a big, right handed-pitcher who throws in the low 90s.  He adds some depth to our pitching class and we are really excited about what he brings to the table.  We think he has a tremendous upside," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter.
