SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara baseball hosts San Diego in a West Coast Conference series this weekend in the next to last home series of the season.
With the flip of the calendar to a new month, only 10 games remain on the regular season schedule - the three-game series against San Diego, followed by a midweek game at Stanford on May 7, the final road series at Saint Mary's (May 10-12) and the regular season finale series at home against BYU (May 16-18).
The Broncos closed out April with a loss to No. 2-ranked Stanford on Tuesday to finish 6-11 in the month.
Friday's first pitch is at 6 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. start on Saturday presented by xFinity and the series finale at noon on Sunday.

LAST TIME
Kyle Stowers and Brandon Wulff each hit two-run homers and Alex Williams yielded just two hits over seven innings to lead second-ranked Stanford to a 7-1 victory over Santa Clara to hand the Broncos its first loss on a Tuesday this season.
McCarthy supplied the lone run for the Broncos with a solo homer in the fifth inning that carried over the batter's eye. The Bronco redshirt junior had two of Santa Clara's three hits, though Stanford was only able to muster six of its own.
Santa Clara starter Brandon Buckley (1-1), who surrendered just one run in his two innings of work, suffered the loss as the Broncos utilized six relievers thereafter.
ABOUT SAN DIEGO
San Diego is led by head coach Rich Hill who is in his 21st year at the helm with the program and 32nd year overall at the collegiate level compiling a 1028-720-4 record.
The Toreros lead the West Coast Conference in hitting (.284), on-base percentage (.382) and runs (290). Four Toreros are hitting over .300 led by Ripken Reyes' .359 batting average and .452 OBP. Cody Jefferis tops the team in RBIs with 30 among five players with over 25 runs knocked in.
On the mound, the team is last in the league with a 5.76 ERA hurt by a pair of 20-0 losses. The Toreros have given up double digit runs in nine games this season.
Defensively, the Toreros have committed 38 errors in 45 games.

NEWCOMERS IN ACTION
•Eighteen newcomers made their Bronco debuts on opening weekend along with RHP Matthew McGarry who sat out last season after transferring from Vanderbilt.
•In all, 20 newcomers have seen action this season, the last one being catcher Ben McKnight, who made his Bronco debut as a pinch-hitter against Washington (April 16).
•At least three newcomers have been in the starting lineup in each of the 42 games this season.
-A season-high seven freshmen started on the field against UC Davis (March 26).
•Freshmen Dawson Brigman has started in 41 of the 42 games including the first 32 games before sitting out the game against Pacific on April 14. Freshman Connor Henriques has started the second most games among newcomers with 37.
•Brigman is the only newcomer who has started the same position in the game he has played in this season (41 games for Brigman at short. Henriques has started in 36 of 37 games at third.
•The freshmen have accounted for 46.2% the Bronco hit totals this season (141 of 305) with Brigman leading the way with 33 hits.
•The newcomers have accounted for 78.5% of the innings pitched (297 1/3 innings out of 378 2/3) with Grant leading the way with 54 innings.
•Jew leads all newcomers with four home runs and is tied for second on the team.
•Brigman (vs. SJSU, Feb. 17), Jew (vs. SJSU, Feb. 17), fellow freshmen Blake Faddoul (vs. Washington State, Feb. 24) and Connor Henriques (vs. Portland, April 27) each have gone yard.
•Junior college transfers Brendan Ecklebarger (Feb. 22) and Keegan McCarville (Feb. 23) picked up their first career wins against Washington State.
•Junior college transfer Ethan Heinrich earned his first career save against Washington State (Feb. 23).
•Twin brothers Locke Bernhardt and Holden Bernhardt made their Bronco debuts in, appropriately, a twin bill against San José State on opening day (Feb. 16).
•Holden Bernhardt made his first start on the mound on Sunday against CSUN (March 24) and Locke Bernhardt followed suit making his first start on Tuesday against UC Davis (March 26) where he tossed five hitless innings to earn his first win.
HOME RUNS
•The Broncos have hit 30 home runs collectively by eight different players (12 by MacNichols, four each by Jew, Dicochea and Nnebe, three by McCarthy plus one each by Brigman, Faddoul and Henriques).
•The first 12 home runs hit by the Broncos were all solo shots until Jake MacNichols' 3-run shot against LMU (March 16).
•Twenty-one of the 30 home runs this season have been solo homers.
STREAKS
•Cam Allie has the current longest hitting streak at seven games.
•Jake MacNichols had reached base safely in 14 straight games until the streak was snapped on April 19.
•Jason Dicochea had a 12-game hitting streak and reached base safely in the 16 games until it was snapped against San Francisco on Sunday.
•MacNichols hit a home run in three consecutive games (Feb. 23 - March 1).
NOTABLE
•Brandon Buckley threw a career-high 5 1/3 innings in relief against LMU (March 16) after tossing five innings in his previous appearance vs Omaha (March 9). Coming off an injury last season, the redshirt sophomore has allowed just five earned runs in 23.1 innings this season (1.93 ERA).
•Buckley's start on April 23 was his first in over two years. The redshirt sophomore sat out all last season due to an injury and returned to pick up his first career win against Cal Poly on April 23.
•Jake MacNichols is third in the WCC with 12 home runs
•Cam Allie is sixth in the league in sacrifice bunts with six.
•Bronco closers redshirt senior Eric Lex and junior Ethan Heinrich have combined for four saves and have allowed just four earned runs in 34 innings while striking out 39.
•Russell Grant II is eighth in the conference with a 2.50 ERA.
SCHEDULE
The 2019 schedule features games against three teams (Washington, Gonzaga and Stanford) that qualified for the 2018 NCAA Baseball Tournament with the Huskies advancing to the College World Series. PARKING
Parking is available in the Guadalupe lot, adjacent to 455 El Camino Real. The Guadalupe lot is reserved beginning 60 minutes before game time through the end of the event for free parking. Baseball parking is no longer allowed in the lot behind Schott Stadium's left field wall. Overflow parking is available in the Leavey Center lot. Spectators that plan to arrive more than an hour prior to game time on weekdays are encouraged to purchase a parking permit for the Leavey lot. All SCU lot parking is free on weekends.
