Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball – JonJon Berring
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the first member of the 2020 recruiting class, Jonathan 'JonJon' Berring.   The two-sport athlete from Palma High in Salinas, California is a speedy outfielder that also plays wide receiver and defensive back for the Chieftain football team.

"I chose Santa Clara because it is close to home, allowing the people who supported me along my journey to continue to watch me play," said Berring.

The three-time captain on the diamond, who bats left and throws right, hit .343 with a .438 on-base percentage while swiping 16 bases during his sophomore and junior seasons on the varsity team.  Last season, he was named the team's most valuable player.

On the gridiron, he scored 21 touchdowns and hauled in 53 passes for 831 yards in three seasons while adding another 732 yards on the ground.  This fall, the 5-foot-7 Berring is averaging over 20 yards per catch with a long of 85 yards and nearly 10 yards per carry.

"JonJon is an elite two-sport athlete.  He is both explosive and dynamic in his baseball ability.  The Norcal baseball product has top-notch speed that projects him to be a top of the batting order type of hitter with power and we expect that speed to cover a lot of ground in the outfield.  He is a well rounded, high character student-athlete who we are thrilled is becoming a Bronco," said Santa Clara head coach Rusty Filter.

Our next future Bronco, Cade Connolly, will be announced the week of November 25.
