Matt Daily begins his third season as Director of Baseball Operations for Santa Clara Baseball. "Matt is very organized and detailed and has a strong passion for college baseball," said head coach Mark O'Brien. "He will assist us in many ways and enhance the quality of the program tremendously. He is a loyal and dedicated worker and we are thrilled to have him in our program." Daily graduated cum laude from Notre Dame in 1998 and began his coaching career that year as an assistant coach at Del Mar Junior College in Corpus Christi, Tex. In 1999, he moved up to the Division I ranks as he was involved in the start-up of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball program. After earning his Master's degree in Education from Notre Dame in 2000, Daily joined the baseball staff at the University of Portland. There he served as the team's hitting instructor as well as working with the team's outfield and assisting in the recruiting process. In 2001, Daily returned to Lewis & Clark College, where he played from 1994-96, as an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator for the Pioneers. The following summer, in 2002, he served as assistant coach of the St. Cloud River Bats in the Northwoods Collegiate Baseball League, serving as hitting instructor and working with the outfielders. After a stint as an assistant with Georgetown, Daily moved up to the Major Leagues, serving as an associate scout for the San Diego Padres. His duties included evaluating potential prospects in the Indiana and Michigan regions and administering open tryouts for potential players. A Bay Area native, Daily graduated from Los Gatos High School and was an all-league performer for the Wildcats in football and baseball. He is currently engaged to Jenny West, formerly of Steamboat Springs, Colo. He resides in Los Gatos.
