SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Santa Clara women's crew team returned once again to Lake Natoma for the Sacramento Invitational this past Saturday. The girls gave a solid effort at the regatta which also included Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, Stanford's Lightweights, Sonoma State, Humboldt State, Cal's Lightweights, Mills College and the University of the Pacific.

In the varsity eight competition, Santa Clara pulled in at fourth place with a time of 7:25.2. The Broncos were only 20 seconds behind Sacramento State and just shy of nine seconds behind Saint Mary's and the Stanford Lightweights who finished between .6 seconds of each other. The second varsity eight came in fourth as well at 7:37.8, behind Sacramento's A and B boats (7:10.1 and 7:20.1 respectively) and a mere 10 seconds behind Saint Mary's.

The Bronco women proved themselves to be a strong force in the varsity four race, crossing the finish at 7:49.1, taking second place. The boat was a mere eight seconds behind Sacramento State and 30 seconds ahead of Saint Mary's.

Santa Clara's women novice eight also raced well, clocking in at 7:40.63 for a third place finish. Sacramento State set the pace 12 seconds ahead of the Bronco's, followed by Humboldt, who finished 7 seconds ahead of the women. Saint Mary's crossed the line 12 seconds after SCU.

Santa Clara women's crew will return to the water in two weeks against the Stanford Lightweights. They will race their home course at Lexington Reservoir in Los Gatos on Wednesday, March 28.
