Men's Rowing Releases Virtual Media Guide

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - With the 2012 season fast approaching and the team wrapping-up its rigorous offseason workouts, Santa Clara men's rowing is proud to present its virtual media guide on www.SantaClaraBroncos.com.

The Broncos' first race will be at the UC Davis Invitational on Sat., Mar. 3 in Port of Sacramento, Calif. In the same event last season Santa Clara finished third as a team.

"Our first race of the season is just a week away," said Santa Clara head coach Wieslaw Kujda. "The team looks strong after five months of training and I expect a solid performance at Davis from the whole squad. Last year Davis won all of their races by small margin and our goal is to be able to turn the table on them. Hopefully Varsity 8 will be under six minutes and Junior Varsity 8 will row under 6:20."

The Broncos will be led by a quartet of seniors, including Daniel Calvillo. Kujda will be looking to fellow senior Abe Checkoway and juniors Howard Limburg, Toban Platt and Spencer Rahn to help lead the 12 underclassmen on the team. With 75 percent of its top boat returning from 2011, Santa Clara looks to take advantage of its experienced squad and improve on its 11th place finish at the 2011 Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships.

In addition to the UC Davis Invitational the Broncos will take part in the Sacramento State Invitational, the San Diego Crew Classic and the Stanford Invitational before the WIRA Championships on Apr. 28-29. In 2011 Santa Clara finished third among West Coast Conference boats.  The season will wrap-up at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships on May 12-13 at the Sacramento Stat Aquatic Center in West Sacramento, Calif.
