Broncos Fall to WCC Rival USF 6-1

April 9, 2009

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - On Wednesday afternoon the Santa Clara men's tennis team fell to West Coast Conference rival San Francisco 6-1. Senior Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong won the only point for the Broncos with a singles win over USF's Einar Hart 1-6, 7-6. 6-2. With the loss SCU falls to 4-10 for the 2009 dual season.

The Broncos came out flat in doubles play and dropped two of the three matches. In singles it was more of the same. SCU struggled to muster any kind of momentum to change to tone of the match. A bright spot, however, came from San Francisco native Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong who forced his singles match into a three set battle to give the Broncos a point.

"I'm happy Kenzo was able to get a win in his last hometown match," said Bronco head coach Derek Mills. "I'm disappointed with the loss and with how we played, and we are definitely going to have to turn it around when we play Pacific on Monday."

In their last regular season match of the season, Santa Clara travels to No. 54 Pacific on April 13.
