Santa Clara Athletics Celebrates Women in Sports

Jan. 16, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - In honor of the 17th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Santa Clara University's Department of Athletics & Recreation will host a variety of activities for young fans, including a "Be a Buddy Night" and a free youth clinic put on by the Santa Clara women's basketball team.

The festivities will kick off at the Bronco women's basketball game vs. Gonzaga on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. Young fans are invited to register to be paired up with a Santa Clara female student-athlete for the game. These buddies will hang out during the game and provide a glimpse into the world of Division I women's athletics. The Gonzaga game is also Women's Basketball Alumni Night, and the Broncos will honor many of the players that have made the program successful through the years.

The celebration will continue the following morning, Sunday, Feb. 2, as the women's basketball team will host a free clinic for young fans, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Leavey Center.

Space is limited for both events and RSVPs are required. For more information, or to reserve a place, please call 408-554-6921 or email kidz@scu.edu . Group discounts, team passes, and some subsidized tickets are available for the game.
