SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's basketball team opens preparations for the 2002-03 season this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Leavey Center. The practice is open to the public.
The Broncos return 11 letter-winners from a team that won 21 games last season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The returners are led by a core of five seniors: forwards Tammy Annas, Julie Butler, Courtney Cushing and Kendra Rhea, and guard Jennifer Bradley.
The Broncos will host two exhibition contests at Leavey. On Wednesday, Nov. 6, Santa Clara will host the Bay Area Pro-Am at 7 p.m. The following week, the Broncos will take on a foreign traveling team. That game is scheduled for Friday, November 15 at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the men's basketball exhibition against the Olympic Club.

Santa Clara will open the regular season with four road contests before returning to Leavey. The opener takes place on Friday, Nov. 22 at Lehigh. The Broncos went a perfect 12-0 last season at home, and will look to continue that streak on Wednesday, Dec. 4, against new head coach Michelle Bento's alma mater, Fresno State.
