Broncos Top UC Santa Cruz in Exhibition Contest

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's basketball program earned a 101-37 exhibition victory over UC Santa Cruz tonight at the Leavey Center. The contest marked the final of two tune-ups for the Broncos before opening the regular season. Senior guard Quinn Thomas scored 19 points to lead a group of four players that posted double digits.

Thomas hit five of the team's 15 threes on the night. Junior guard Michelle Cozad came off the bench and made all seven free throw attempts to finish with 17 points. Sophomore forward Ashley Gonnerman added 14 points and freshman guard Chandice Cronk netted 13. Defensively, sophomore forward Tori Markey posted 11 boards to lead the Broncos, and sophomore forward Kasey Monteith added eight rebounds.

UC Santa Cruz's Amanda Brecht led all rebounders with 17, and added a team-leading nine points.

Santa Clara netted eight first-half threes en route to a 53-18 advantage at intermission.

Santa Clara will open the regular season at home against Fresno State next Monday, November 22, at 7 p.m. at the Leavey Center.
