Mead Receives Beach Volleyball’s First CoSIDA Academic Honor

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara beach volleyball's Kirsten Mead became the first player in program history to be selected for a CoSIDA academic award on Thursday. One week after earning her second straight West Coast Conference All-Academic Team nod, the junior was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® 8 Women's At-Large Second Team.

Mead, junior a business economics major with a 3.94 GPA, was one of only two players to make the conference's all-academic team for the second consecutive season in 2017. The Palo Alto, California native teamed up with Jensen Cunningham to go 7-7 in duals and 15-18 in sets at the No. 2 position, including four sweeps. She has also been named to the WCC's all-academic team twice during indoor volleyball season.

The at-large program consists of 26 sports across eight states as well as Canada.
