ST. JORDALEN, Norway - With two Santa Clara players on the winning roster, Morgan Marlborough and Meleana Shim helped lead the U.S. U-23 National Team to a Three Nations Tournament victory on June 18.

The tournament consisted of three games for the U.S. with the first game being a 1-1 draw with Sweden before a 4-1 victory over Norway to seal the tournament win. The U.S. and Norway played a friendly match two days later that ended 4-2 in favor of Norway.

"It is an honor to even put on the US jersey and represent my country," said Marlborough. "Being able to win the tournament and contribute to the scoreboard just adds to the great experience. Just like being blessed to represent my country, I am really looking forward to having the opportunity to wear the Santa Clara jersey and play with my teammates."

The U.S. jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute but Norway tied the score four minutes later. Marlborough assisted on a goal in the 31st minute to put the U.S. back on top and scored a goal of her own in 33rd minute to make the score 3-1. The U.S. added another goal in the 87th minute to finish the scoring and give the U.S. a 4-1 win.

Marlborough and Shim return to the United States for the summer before reporting for the 2012 college season on July 31. Marlborough will sit out 2012 due to the NCAA transfer rules. Shim is expected to be an important cog for the Broncos as a starting midfielder. Her play will be especially important with First-Team All-American Julie Johnston expected to miss the first seven games of the season while playing in the U-20 World Cup in Japan from Aug. 19 through Sept. 8.
