SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Continuing its excellence on and off the field, No. 18 Santa Clara women's soccer had four players honored by the West Coast Conference on Friday for their academic performance. Junior Ellie Rice was named to the WCC All-Academic Team while Olivia Klei, Cali Reis and Paige Robertson were honorable mention.
"I'm very happy for Ellie, Cali, Paige and Olivia for being recognized for what they do in the classroom," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "All four represent the true sense of being a student-athlete. I can say for sure that all four of those individuals are very hard working, very focused, very determined and have a thirst for knowledge on the field and in the classroom. In the true spirit of what we're trying to do at Santa Clara, congratulations to all of them."
Rice, a Psychology major, has a cumulative GPA of 3.51. She has appeared in 18 games so far this season for the Broncos while playing in the backfield.
Klei has a 3.46 GPA as a Marketing major in the Leavey School of Business. She has started all but one game in 2012 while scoring three goals, including the first goal of the season at No. 1 Stanford, and adding three assists.
Reis is majoring in Psychology and has a 3.40 GPA. She has appeared in 13 games while attempting five shots and one shot on goal.
Robertson is studying Accounting and has a GPA of 3.65. She has found the back of the net twice this season in 12 games played.
