SANTA CLARA, Calif. — On this week's edition of the Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap, student-athlete hosts Nici Gilday and Denzel Johnson get you caught up on the latest in Santa Clara athletics. Seven Bronco teams competed last week, so take a look as Gilday and Johnson spin you around the world of Bronco sports.

Bronco softball won three games at the San Diego Classic in America's Finest City with victories over Western Carolina, Harvard and Utah Valley. Santa Clara scored six runs in the seventh inning of their opener against the Catamounts. EYEBRONCO caught up with senior infielder Jordan Newell about the weekend. Next up is the Santa Clara Round Robin at home this Friday through Sunday, with matchups against Manhattan, UC Santa Barbara and Brown. The Broncos play a doubleheader on Saturday. 

Sand volleyball took down San Jose State in Los Gatos last week by a score of 4-1. Four Bronco pairs won their matches two sets to none, including the No. 1 and No. 2 SCU teams. EYEBRONCO made its way to the courts for game footage and got some postmatch reaction from sand Head Coach Aaron Mansfield. The team is 3-1 on the season and is now ranked No. 15 in the country. They next compete on March 28 at the Santa Cruz Duals against a group of teams that features No. 1 Hawai'i.

Baseball started conference play this weekend down at LMU in Los Angeles. After winning the series opener behind eight strong innings from Steven Wilson Friday, the Broncos fell in extras on Saturday and dropped the finale Sunday. Santa Clara plays its WCC home opener against the San Diego Toreros this weekend at Schott Stadium. First pitch times are Friday at 6 p.m., as well as Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Men's golf finished in 10th place at the Tiger Invitational in Opelika, Ala. last week. Hayden Shieh shot a pair of sub-70 rounds to tie for ninth place. They take this week off before heading out to San Antonio for the Lone Star Invitational beginning March 23.

Women's golf also returns to action on March 23 at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic in Maui. The team is coming off a three-week break after three events in February. 

Men's rowing competed against UC Santa Barbara and UCLA in Santa Barbara this weekend. The Varsity 8 and Novice 8 crews each won their races in the field of four. They return to the water on March 28 and 29 at the San Diego Crew Classic.

Women's tennis defeated UC Davis 5-2 Saturday at the Degheri Tennis Center. They will play Saturday at 10 a.m. against BYU and Sunday at 12 p.m. against San Diego at home.

Women's water polo took a week off but returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. against Harvard at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.

Track races Sunday at the Johnny Mathis Invitational in San Francisco. The Broncos are coming off a light week at the Aggie Invite.
