Softball Signs Three to National Letters of Intent

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball has signed three players to National Letters of Intent. Bethany Shih, Hazyl Gray, and Robynn Balmediano will join the Broncos as the class of 2026.

Robynn Balmediano | IF/OF | 5-3 | Benicia, Calif.| Benicia High School

Balmediano posted a .455 on-base percentage and a .857 slugging percentage with four home runs and 13 RBIs during the 202-21 season. She was featured on Cal-Hi Sports for her defensive play.

Her club team California Breeze finished in seventh at PGF Nationals in 2019.

She was on the Principal Scholar Honor Roll and part of student leadership as an ASB Rally Commissioner.

In her free time she enjoys playing guitar, training young softball players, and student leadership.

Bethany Shih | IF | 5-4 | Foster City, Calif. | San Mateo High School

Shih was a four-year varsity softball player with the team making it to CCS semifinals her freshman year. She was selected by OnDeck Softball for the Colorado Jamboree and picked for the All-American Academic Game at the Colorado Sparkler.

She was picked as a San Mateo County Climate Ambassador and had a 3.96 unweighted GPA in school.

In her free time she enjoys teaching at Sunday school, playing the piano and guitar, and creative arts and crafts projects.

Hazyl Gray | LHP/OF | 5-7 | Fairfield, Calif. | Vanden High School

Gray was a team captain during the 2021-22 seasons for her high school team. She was both the MEL Pitcher and Player of the Year in 2021 and was the Monticello Empire League Pitcher of the Year in 2019. Her team were also Monticello League Champions in 2019 and finished third in CIF San Joaquin Division I.

Her club team were the Colorado Sparklers and she participated in the Triple Crown Nationals in 2017 and 2018 and the USA Western Nationals in 2018.

Off the field she has excelled in the classroom as a 2020 National Society of High School Scholars member. She also has done community service with a variety of organizations.

She enjoys horticulture, animal care, and is in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Crops.
