Trierweiler Earns Second WCC Softball Player of the Week Award

WCC Release

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the second time this season, Santa Clara softball player Ashley Trierweiler was named West Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, and the fifth time a Bronco has been recognized with a conference weekly honor.

Hitting from her customary leadoff position, Trierweiler safely reached base a total of 14 times on nine hits, three walks and two hit by pitches, to help lead the Broncos win three of the four games last week, including a weekend sweep of Pacific.  She extended her on-base streak to 36 games and is currently second in the nation among Division I players with a .626 on-base percentage and leads the country in hitting with a .525 batting average.

Trierweiler went 9-for-14 with seven runs scored and posted a slash line of .643/.700/.857.  Against Cal in a midweek road contest, she went 5-for-6 and scored three runs in a game the Broncos fell just short, losing 9-8 in 13 innings.  She also had three hits in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Pacific to help the Broncos to a 3-2 walk-off win in nine innings.

This was the fourth time Trierweiler has been named WCC Player of the Week in her career, having twice won it last season.

Other Broncos to be recognized by the conference this season include Lauren LaHood (named Player of the Week on Feb. 27), Emma Bickford (Player of the Week on March 20) and Sage Hager (Pitcher of the Week on April 10).

The Broncos next play at San José State on Wednesday.
