SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University women's volleyball player Becky Potter was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for the second time in as many weeks following her 42 kill, 33 dig, 16 block performance during the Northern Arizona Fiesta Bowl Tournament last weekend in Flagstaff, Ariz.
The junior from Clovis, Calif. earned tournament MVP honors for the second week in a row while recording her first two double-doubles of the season on day two of the tournament. The first came against Idaho when she posted 15 kills and 10 digs in their 3-0 win Saturday morning, followed by her 18 kills and 14 digs in the championship match Saturday night against NAU.
She earned tournament MVP honors while leading the Broncos to a three-match sweep of the tournament, making the Broncos only the fourth team to win the Fiesta Bowl Classic in its 13-year history. They join Purdue, SDSU and 10-time champion, Northern Arizona. She finished the weekend with a .325 (42-15-83) hitting percentage.
The honor for Potter is the third in her career, and second in as many weeks. She was honored last week following her MVP performance at the UC Irvine Marriott Sunset Showcase.
Potter and the Broncos will continue their 12-match road trip this weekend in Lincoln, Neb., where they will take part in the U.S. Bank/Arby's Classic hosted by No. 4 Nebraska. Santa Clara will face the Cornhuskers on day one, followed by matches with Michigan and Alabama on day two.
