Finishing a perfect 2-0 weekend with two 3-0 wins, Santa Clara swept Portland in three on Saturday at the Leavey Center.  Set scores were 25-23, 25-20 and 25-21. Santa Clara is 11-14 and 6-8 in the WCC.  Portland is 8-20 and 2-13.

"It's a really good win for us.  We had a lot of girls contribute and play at a high level for us.  I really liked the leadership of Bridget O'Hara. She was a really good calming and energizing presence on the court," said Bronco head coach Jon Wallace.  "It was good to see Taylor getting her jump serve going today with four aces.  Dana continues to play well and with three block solos she stepped up her play even more.  She worked hard the entire match."

Santa Clara hit .248 percent with 43 kills (18 e, 101 att.).  They collected 32 digs, 40 assists, eight service aces, nine service errors and six team blocks.  Portland hit .214 with 35 kills (17 e, 84 att.).  They collected 32 assists, 37 digs, two aces, five service errors and six team blocks.

Individually Santa Clara was led by Dana Knudsen's nine kills (5 e, 16 att.), hitting .250.  Lexi Williamson and Tanya Schmidt both collected eight kills each.  Schmidt hit .316.  Alyssa Anderson had 38 assists with four digs.  Taylor Milton led the Broncos with four service aces.  Bridget O'Hara had 10 digs and Williamson collected eight.

For the Pilots Kati Hronek had 11 kills, hitting .667.  Ariel Usher had eight kills and Kate Bostwick had seven.  Setter Monica Jordan collected 30 assists and Katie Mardesich led the Pilots with 15 digs.

Santa Clara won set one 25-23.  The teams tied it up two times in the early going before Portland jumped out 4-2.  SCU tied it up at 4-4 on tough serving by Kayla Lommori.  The Pilots took a two-point lead at 6-4 and 7-5.   Two Pilot errors and a service ace resulted in three Bronco points.  The Pilots tied it up 8-8 on a kill off the block.  Santa Clara scored two  and then Portland scored six of the next seven to take a 14-11 lead.  The teams traded points on a kill by Knudsen.  A hitting by the Pilots and a kill by Knudsen put SCU up 17-16.  Knudsen's kill off the block and an error by Portland put SCU up 19-17. Timeout Portland.  Portland scored three of the next four points to tie it up 20-20, but Milton hit it short in the middle for a kill.  Portland hit it out to put SCU up 22-20.  Santa Clara scored two of the next three points to go up 24-21.  Timeout Portland.  Portland scored two kills to pull within one, 24-23 Broncos.  Timeout Santa Clara.  A kill by Lommori cross court closed out the set for Santa Clara.  Santa Clara hit .258 with 13 kills (5 e, 31 att.).  Portland hit .241 with 14 kills (7 e, 29 att.).  Knudsen led the Broncos with four kills.   Hronek scored four and Bostwick five for Portland. 

Santa Clara won set two 25-20  Williamson's kill, team block by Knudsen and Anderson and two service aces by Milton put SCU up 4-0.  Williamson's kill off the block, Knudsen's block solo and a Pilot hitting error put SCU up 7-1.   After the Pilots got a sideout with a kill, Lommori's kill and another Pilot error put SCU up 9-2.  Trading points again, Schmidt's kill gave the Broncos the ball. The Broncos went up 12-4 when Portland whistled for time.  A Bronco service error was followed by a kill by Milton.  Another Milton kill put SCU up 14-6.  Williamson's ace was followed by a Knudsen kill to put SCU up 17-8.  Anderson's dump made it 18-9 Broncos.  Santa Clara went up 22-15 on a kill by Lommori.  A kill by Lommori made it 23-17.  A kill by Schmidt closed out set two 25-20.   Santa Clara hit .222 with 15 kills (7 e, 36 att.).  Portland hit .107 with 10 kills (7 e, 28 att.).  Williamson had four kills and Lommori collected three.  Hronek had four kills.

Santa Clara won set three 25-21.  Three hitting errors by Portland put SCU up 3-0 to start the third set.  Trading points SCU went up 4-1 on a kill by Milton.  A hitting error by the Pilots gave SCU a 6-3 lead.  A kill by Knudsen gave the Broncos the ball up  7-4.  Douglas served up an ace to make it 8-4.  The Pilots scored three straight points before Douglas pass over resulted in a kill, 9-7 Broncos.  A kill by Schmidt off the block was followed by one by the Pilots to tie it up 10-10.  Schmidt's kill gave SCU a sideout.  The teams tied it up at 11 and 12 before Milton's ace made it 14-12 Broncos.  Knudsen's kill off the block pushed Portland to whistle for time with SCU up 15-12.  Portland crushed the ball in the back row to side out, but SCU returned the favor to go up 16-13.  A long rally resulted in a Pilot point, 20-17 Broncos.  After the Pilots scored again, SCU whistled for time.  The Broncos scored twice, including a kill by Douglas to the back row.  A kill by the Pilots made it 22-19 SCU.  Knudsen's kill to the back row and one by Anderson gave SCU a 25-21 set three win.  SCU hit .265 with 15 kills (6e, 34 att.).  Portland hit .296 with 11 kills (3e, 27 att.).
