Bronco Student-Athletes Record School Record 3.14 GPA For Spring 2011 Quarter

Recording the highest grade point average in Santa Clara history, Bronco student-athletes recorded a school record 3.14 gpa for the spring 2011 quarter.  The previous high-water mark for the student-athletes one quarter gpa was 3.11 in the winter of 2009. In addition 92 student-athletes achieved a 3.5 GPA this quarter. Santa Clara's student-athletes have achieved a 3.0 GPA or better 13 of the last 14 quarters.  Santa Clara's cumulative gpa for its student-athletes is 3.097.

"This is a terrific accomplishment," said Bronco Athletic Director Dan Coonan.  "Congratulations are certainly in order not only for each of our student-athletes, but for their coaches for creating a culture conducive to academic success, and to Zoe Segnitz and Jason Stock of our Academic Services unit, whose diligent efforts set the tone for this success.  Our student-athletes are clearly embracing their academic challenges with the same intensity with which they engage their opponents."

The women's cross country team led all Bronco teams for the third straight quarter with a 3.56 gpa during the spring 2011 quarter.  They also have the top cumulative gpa at 3.4 as well. It was the highest gpa on record for a single team in a single quarter as well.  Women's tennis posted the second-highest gpa at 3.43 in the spring quarter.

On the men's side, the cross country team also posted the highest GPA at 3.36 for the spring 2011 quarter for the third straight quarter. They also had the highest cumulative GPA at 3.29.

""The women's and men's teams work very hard on the trails and in the class room. We are all very pleased with their latest academic accomplishments. I look forward to seeing how we do again next quarter," said Bronco head cross country and track coach Felipe Montoro.

"Academics is really important to our team.  Our women are led by Katie Le and Kelly Lamble, who have a 3.840 and 3.817 cumulative gpa respectively.  They are also both All-WCC players as well on the court and Katie was the WCC Freshman of the Year," said Bronco head women's tennis coach Ben Cabell.  The women finished ranked No. 69 nationally – the first time the Broncos have ever finished the season nationally ranked. "I am really proud of my entire team for being able to balance a nationally-competitive schedule with so much success on the court and also have strong discipline in the classroom to do so well academically.  Our team is not just great athletes, but also really well-rounded.  Our team participates in community service efforts with BAWSI and Kelly Lamble is going to an immersion trip to Ecuador this summer."
