Volleyball Falls at No. 7 BYU

PROVO, Utah - Kenzie Korber (11), Heather Gneiting (10) and Taylen Ballard-Nixon (9) combined for 30 kills on a blistering .563 attack percentage to lead No. 7-ranked BYU to a 25-14, 25-10, 25-17 victory over Santa Clara volleyball on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (21-1, 11-0), who won their 14th-straight match, outhit the Broncos .426 to .090 and held a 6.0 to 3.0 edge in total blocks.

Julia Sangiacomo had a match-high 15 kills, but no other Bronco had more than four in the West Coast Conference tilt.

Nive Tuileta and Kat Georgiadis each tallied 11 digs for the Broncos (8-14, 4-8) who had good starts in both the first and third sets.

The opening set was tied at 6-all and Santa Clara trailed just 12-9 after a kill from Sangiacomo, but Ballard-Nixon keyed a 5-1 run with three kills to take control.

The third set was tied seven times and Santa Clara was down only 15-10 following Sangiacomo's fourth of seven kills in the set. But BYU followed with a 6-2 flurry aided by a pair of kills from Koerber and the lead eventually grew to 10.

The second set was the most efficient for the Cougars who scored seven of the first eight points and hit .538 with Gneiting connecting on five of her seven kill attempts.

Gneiting also had five of the team's 12 block assists.

NOTES

• Julia Sangiacomo (15) reached double-digit kills for the team-best 18th time this season. She has nine matches with 15 or more.

NEXT UP

The Broncos finish off three straight on the road on Friday with a matchup against San Francisco. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
