No. 22 Volleyball Downs Alabama in Four Games

LINCOLN, Neb. - The 22nd-ranked Santa Clara University volleyball team improved to 8-1 on the season with a 3-1 victory over the University of Alabama Saturday night in the final match of the U.S. Bank/Arby's Classic in Lincoln, Neb.

Junior Becky Biniek and freshman Cassie Perret led the way for the Broncos with 15 kills apiece, while junior Becky Potter picked up her fifth-straight double-double with her 13 kills and 14 digs.

Junior Kelli Sousa posted six kills and 12 digs to go along with her match-high 52 assists on the evening, while Chrissy Hirsch chipped in 13 digs from the libero position.

As a team the Broncos hit .286 for the match, but an even .500 in game four whle limiting the Crimson Tide to a .199 hitting percentage for the match.

Erin Heffner led the way for Alabama with her match-high 17 kills, followed closely by teammate Erin Price who notched 16 kills in the match to go along with her 14 digs.

Santa Clara will conclude its season-long 12-match road trip next weekend, playing in the University of Denver Invitational. The Broncos will take on the University of Maryland in the tournament opener next Friday, September 20th, at 4 p.m. The Broncos will then face Minnesota Saturday morning, followed by a match with Denver Saturday night.
