SANTA CLARA, Calif. –
For the first time in program history Santa Clara University women's water polo student-athletes have been awarded back-to-back Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week honors.

Laura Espinosa (Mountain View, Calif./Mountain View, HS) earned the league's top individual accolade for her play on the offensive end at SCU's Rodeo tournament last week and on Thursday, senior goalkeeper Wren White (Los Gatos, Calif./Presentation HS) was given the award for her play in the cage at the UC Davis Aggie Shootout.

White had 12 blocks and a steal to help the SCU defense hold No. 19 Pacific scoreless until midway through the third quarter during an impressive 5-1 SCU victory Saturday in Davis. White had eight blocks, playing in all 32 minutes against Cal State East Bay later that day and had five more in split time Sunday against No. 15 UC Davis.

White was supported by a complete team effort from the Broncos, who prevented Pacific from getting the ball into set. Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur praised his inside defenders, Caitlin Espe and Sarah Safir, for fronting UOP's two-meter players.

"The game against UOP was one of the best defensive efforts of the year and that was highlighted by Wren's work in the cage," said Wilbur. "It's a good sign to have consecutive Player of the Week awards, especially for such a young team. It shows we are really going in the right direction at a crucial point of the season."

The Broncos, who are currently ranked just outside of the Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 20, will host Harvard this Sunday at 12 noon.
