Women’s Water Polo Plays Host To San Diego State

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's water polo will play its second home game of the season on Friday.

The Broncos (0-2, 0-1) will face San Diego State at 4 p.m. in Sullivan Aquatic Center in a Golden Coast Conference matchup though spectators will be not be permitted in the facility due to COVID-19 pandemic guidelines.

Last time out Santa Clara fell to San Jose State, 17-7, at home on Sunday.

The Aztecs (1-10) will be playing their first conference game of the season. They knocked off fifth-ranked Michigan, 7-6, in double overtime on Sunday in a split of a two-game series.

Kelly Frumkin and Gabi Sicat are the lone returning starters for the Broncos who fell to Pacific in their GCC opener.

Mia Battilega and Malena Nguyen lead the Broncos with three goals apiece. Nguyen also has a team-high four kickouts drawn.

Abby Fleming, Jamie Robinson and Maddie Clough have two assists each.

NOTES
Abby Fleming, Mia Battilega, Malena Nguyen, Elle Fredrickson, Kelly Frumkin and Gabi Sicat have started in both games. Alex Grau started in net in the season opener against Pacific and Grace Kavanagh opened the game between the pipes vs. San Jose State.

In addition to Santa Clara County guidelines prohibiting fans in Sullivan Aquatic Center, only essential personnel is allowed on campus. The general public is allowed only to 'pass through' campus, such as on a walk, but no lingering, gathering, lounging, etc. is permitted.
