Baseball Drops Series Finale at Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. – Eleventh-ranked Gonzaga finished a sweep of Santa Clara baseball with a 4-0 win Sunday afternoon despite a ninth inning rally.

Tyler Rando was the offensive star for the Zags (32-13, 18-6 WCC). His two-run shot in the sixth gave Gonzaga some breathing room and he added an RBI double in the eighth for some insurance. Rando finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, three RBIs, and a run scored. Savier Pinales drove in the other run with a single in the third to put his team on top 1-0.

William Kempner started and went 4 2/3 innings with two hits, two walks and eight strikeouts before being lifted for Owen Wild (7-1) who tossed the final 4 1/3. He allowed two hits and punched out six to get the win.

The Broncos (24-25, 11-16 WCC) got on the board in the ninth when Alex Lambeau doubled to left center to score Dawson Brigman and bring the tying run to the plate. Wild was able to settle down and retire the next two batters.

Lambeau finished his day with a pair of doubles and an RBI with Eamonn Lance also adding two hits, including a double. D. Brigman, Matt Jew, and Cal Christofori each added a hit with Christofori taking a pair of walks.

Cade Pilchard (1-1) started for the Broncos and allowed a run in 3 innings on two hits with four strikeouts while taking the loss.
