David Wahlstrom begins his third year on the athletics staff at Santa Clara University as the Associate Director of Athletic Media Relations.

Wahlstrom is part of a three-person staff that handles the department's media relations efforts. He serves as the primary publicity contact for baseball, men's and women's crew, men's soccer, men's and women's golf, volleyball and will share the men's basketball duties.

In addition to his sport duties in 2001-2002, Wahlstrom served as the Media Coordinator for the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball West Regional that Santa Clara hosted at the Compaq Center in San Jose.

Wahlstrom came to Santa Clara in August 2001 following a two-year stint at his alma mater, Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz. While at Grand Canyon, he served as the Director of Sports Information, handling all areas of media relations and on-campus marketing for the department's eight intercollegiate athletic teams.

Prior to Canyon, the native of Arizona served as an Account Executive for the Phoenix Suns, handling season ticket sales for the Suns, Phoenix Mercury and Arizona Rattlers. Wahlstrom's duties extended into various areas of the sales office and game operations department that carried over from his internship with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

While interning for the Arizona Diamondbacks during its inaugural season in 1998, Wahlstrom helped conduct all pre-game activities on the field that included national anthem and color guard coordination. Wahlstrom also supervised the dispersion of the team's promotional giveaways prior to the contests. At the conclusion of the inaugural season Wahlstrom authored the first-ever game analysis for the Diamondbacks' marketing department, showing the game-by-game attendance figures along with outside factors that might have influenced them.

Wahlstrom joined the Arizona Diamondbacks program while attending Grand Canyon University's MBA program. Wahlstrom graduated with honors in 1999. Prior to his graduate work, Wahlstrom graduated with honors from Grand Canyon in 1997 with a bachelor's in marketing. Wahlstrom first attended Grand Canyon in 1994 and played basketball for the Antelopes for one season, helping them advance to the NCAA Division II West Regional in Davis, Calif.

The 28 year-old is single and currently resides in Cupertino.
