Stockton, Calif. – With Evan Roquemore scoring his 1000^th Bronco point on a pair of free throws to ice the game with 2.7 seconds left, Santa Clara defeated Pacific 75-71 on Saturday in Stockton.  He is the 30^th Bronco in school history to score 1,000 career points and he joins senior teammates Marc Trasolini and Kevin Foster who both scored 1000 points in 2011. It was Santa Clara's first win at Pacific since the Broncos won 67-49 at Pacific on Dec. 9, 2006.

Santa Clara is 8-2 and Pacific is 5-5, including 2-2 vs. West Coast Conference teams.  Santa Clara hosts Cal Poly on Mon., Dec. 17 at 7 pm before hosting the 47^th annual Cable Car Classic on Dec. 21-22.

"It's never fun coaching here," said Bronco head coach Kerry Keating. "The guys do  a tremendous job of coaching here. I have a lot of respect for Coach Thomason.  He has been here 25 years and it is very commendable what he has done. It makes for a really tough out here. Our guys had to earn this win. We made a couple stops at the end and made some free throws to get the win."

Keating was also quick to compliment the Bronco coaching staff.  "They put a lot of time into the game plan. The guys executed and it gave us a chance to score and we did."

Santa Clara shot 36.9 percent (24 of 65), including 27.3 percent beyond the arc (9 of 33).  The Broncos collected 41 rebounds, 14 assists, five blocks, six steals and had 11 turnovers. They shot 85.7 percent from the free throw line (18 of 21).  Pacific shot 43.1 percent (22 of 51), including 50.0 percent beyond the arc (9 of 18).  The Tigers collected 34 rebounds, 17 assists, no blocks, five steals and had 13 turnovers. They shot 75.0 percent from the free throw line (18 of 24).

Santa Clara was led by Kevin Foster's season-high 31 points.  He was 7 of 7 from the free throw line, made four threes, grabbed five rebounds and dished out a couple of assists.  Foster was 1 of 10 from beyond the arc until he hit three straight in the final few minutes of the game. 

It was Foster's fifth year of playing vs. Pacific.  He moved to No. 10 all-time on the WCC scorers list, passing No. 10 Edgar Jones of Nevada (1975-79, 1,877) and No. 11 Daniel Kickert of Saint Mary's (1,874, 2002-06).

"Kevin makes it a little bit easier on you as a coach," said Keating.  "Late in the game, his teammates shared it and were unselfish.  The guy battles. He made some big ones at the end. His only steal of the game was probably the most important defensive play of the game for him.  The biggest play he made was a defensive play at the end and that speaks volumes."

Keating also praised the play of Roquemore, who scored 21 points with eight assists.  He was 8 of 10 from the free throw line as well.  "Evan was tremendous tonight," added Keating.  "We  relied on him to play a lot of minutes because Ray and Denzel weren't feeling it offensively.  He did play a lot of minutes and he responded. Evan is doing a tremendous job of running the offense.  To score his 1,000^th career point in his junior year is a testament to all the work he has done and indication of where he can go.  He is doing a tremendous job of running the offense."

Marc Trasolini posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. 

Pacific was led by Sama Tuka who scored 23 points, including 6 of 6 form the free throw line with seven rebounds.  Lorenzo McCloud scored 12 points.

Khalil Kelley put the Tigers on the board first inside at 18:56 and Roquemore answered 20 seconds later with a 10-footer.  Kelley dunked it inside at 18:00 and Garrett went over his man for a bucket at 17:50 to tie it up 4-4.

After the Tigers scored from the top of the key, Foster finished a three- point play at 17:17.  UOP scored a three and then Trasolini answered with his own to make it 10-9 at 16:37. 

After Taku hit a three at 15:44, Roquemore hit back-to-back threes for the Broncos t 15:30 and 15:01 to put SCU up 16-12.

Trasolini banked one in at 14:34.  The Tigers then went on an 8-0 run.   Ross Riveria, the Big West Player of the Week, hit back-to-back threes at 14:10 and 13:25 to tie it up 18-18. 

Johnson's free throw stopped the run at 11:04 and the Broncos started a 7-0 run over the next 6:54. Garrett banked it off the glass at 9:35 for two to put SCU up 21-20.  Trasolini scored inside on back-to-back possessions  to put SCU up 25-20.

The Tigers scored their first basket since 11:18 at 4:03 and went on a 10-2 run to end the half.  McCloud scored inside at 2:25.  Roquemore scored a pair of free throws at 1:44 and McCloud hit a three to tie it up 27-27 at 1:30.  Duran hit another three at 31.9.

In the first half Santa Clara shot 32.3 percent (10 of 31), including 16.7 percent beyond the arc (3 of 18).  The Broncos collected 19 rebounds, 7 assists, two blocks, three steals and had six turnovers. They shot 66.7 percent from the free throw line (4 of 6).  Pacific shot 50.0 percent (12 of 24), including 60.0 percent beyond the arc (6 of 10).  The Tigers collected 17 rebounds, 11 assists, zero blocks, two steals and had eight turnovers. They shot 0.0 percent from the free throw line (0-2). 

Roquemore scored 10 points and Trasolini added nine in the first half. Rivera and Duran both scored six for the Tigers.

Travis Fulton scored at 19:51 to open the second half.  Foster's bucket at 19:25 was the team's first basket since 8:28 in the first half.  Roquemore scored from 10 feet out at 18:23.  Kelley scored a pair of three throws to push it to 34-31 at 18:12.

Roquemore's pair of free throws at 17:28 put them one behind UOP, 34-33.  The teams traded baskets with Foster scoring at 16:53.  Taku scored at 16:17 and then a pair of free throws at 15:56 to make the UOP lead five, 40-35.

B. Clark scored inside for his first two points of the game at 15:34.  Foster scored a three point play at 14:06 to pull the Broncos within one at 14:06.  Another pair of Taku free throws made it 43-40 at 13:46.  DeSouza a pair of free throws at 13:11.

B. Clark knocked down a three at 12:45.  Foster's two free throws tied it up 45-45 at 12:14.  Duran scored the Tigers ninth straight free throw at 12:04 with a pair.  They were 0-2 in the first half and were 11 of 14 thus far in the second half but hadn't scored a field goal since 16:22.

Foster pushed in an eight footer over DeSouza, who picked up his fourth foul on the play.  Foster knocked down the free throw to put SCU up one.  Roquemore was fouled on the next possession and he sank both to put SCU up 50-47 at 10:22.

Fulton scored a couple from the line to score the Tigers 11the straight free throw at 10:30.  McCloud stepped to the line to shoot two free throws and he made both to make it 51-50 Pacific at 8:59.  It was the team's 13^th straight free throw, but they still hadn't scored a field goal since 16:22.

Roquemore's three made it 53-51 at 8:39.   Taku sank the team's 15^th straight free throws with two at 8:10.  Foster's three at 7:55 made it 56-53.  McCloud finally scored a bucket for the Tigers at 7:30 – it was their first basket since 16:22 in the second half. During that almost nine minutes they hit 15 straight free throws.

Trasolini scored inside on a Foster miss at 7:08, 58-55 Broncos.  McCloud scored a three at 6:19 and the two were tied.  Foster was grabbed around the waist and sank two free to make it 60-58 at 5:42.  He has scored 19+ 50 times in 105 career games.

McCloud missed the team's first free throw in 16 attempts, but made the second at 5:30.  UOP scored back-to-back baskets to go up 63-60 at 3:48. 

Foster crushed a three from the corner at 2:51 to tie it up 63-63.  It was the Broncos first bucket since 7:05 and he was 1 of 10 from beyond the arc prior to that three.  "I knew I was struggling from the three, but I kept working," said Foster.

Foster busted a move and made another three at 1:37. Taku matched it at 1:16 from the corner by Taku.  Foster crushed an NBA range three to put the Broncos up 69-66 at 53.9.

Foster stole it and laid it in at 26.7.  It was 71-66 Broncos.  He scored his 31^st point on the play, topping his previous season best of 30 at Saint Louis on Nov. 16, 2012.

McCloud scored inside at 17.0 and the Tigers whistled for time with the Broncos leading 71-68.  Trasolini was fouled with 11.8 second left and he made both to put SCU up 73-68.

The Tigers tried a way out three and Roquemore grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 3.4 seconds left.  He made two free throws to put SCU up 75-71.  Roquemore became the  30^th Bronco in school history when he scored the two free throws to score 1,000 career points.
