SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University men's soccer program has announced it has received a National Letter of Intent from 6-foot-7 prep goalkeeper Ryan Herman, a senior at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie, Wash. Herman becomes the first signee from the 2015 class who will attend SCU this fall and play for the Broncos in 2011.
Herman is a current member of the USA U18 Men's National Team pool, having represented the US during July of 2010 in South America. They played games against Bolivia, Chile, the Argentinos Juniors, among others.
"We are brining in a player, in Ryan, who has great experience at some of the highest levels," said Santa Clara head men's soccer coach Cameron Rast. "He's performed well and shown great leadership qualities, which is always something we look for."
While playing for Mount Si High School, Herman has been selected as an ESPN Rise All-American and garnered First Team All-State honors in 2010. Mason Kelly of the Seattle Times reported: With quick feet, soft hands and impressive body control, Herman has developed into one of the top soccer prospects in the state.
"Ryan has tremendous ability at a young age and great potential," added Rast. "Our goal will be to help him develop his talent during his college career. We look forward to him coming in the fall and competing for time in goal."
He also captains the Seattle Sounders FC Academy U18 squad and was tabbed as a 2009-2010 Development Academy All-Star. Herman has helped the Sounders to the top of the US Soccer Development Academy's Northwest Division.
Santa Clara is fresh off winning the 2010 West Coast Conference championship, the program's 11th league title. The Broncos advanced into the NCAA tournament for the 19th time in 2010 and have made five NCAA College Cup Final Four appearances and three finals. Thirteen different SCU men's soccer teams have been ranked among the nation's top 5.
