Meet the Future of Santa Clara Women's Basketball: Savanna Hanson

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – First year women's basketball head coach JR Payne and her staff signed two NLI's for the 2015-16 season. Savanna Hanson of Edmonds, Wash. attended King's High School.

"When I first talked to the coaches from Santa Clara I was completely amazed by their wonderful character and passion for the sports," said Hanson. "When I arrived on campus I was able to meet the members from the basketball team and I loved how outgoing and caring they all were. All together, the campus and people were amazing but the most important factor in my decision to commit to Santa Clara was the fact that I felt God leading me there. I had been praying for an answer and He gave me one."

"Savanna is a tremendous athlete with a world of potential. We are very excited to have her length and athleticism at the point guard position," said Payne.

Hanson was named All-Conference all four years of high school and was once First Team All-State.  Her team ranked second in state, and holds two conference championships. She holds the record for most points scored in a game at her high school with 34. As a junior she averaged 14.0 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game. As a sophomore she averaged 10.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg.

Hanson was the Student Body Homecoming Representative for her high school. Her father played basketball at Chaminade.

In her free time Hanson enjoys playing the guitar, photography, painting, and camping.
