Meet the Future of Santa Clara Women's Basketball: Dru Toleafoa

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – First year women's basketball head coach JR Payne and her staff have added another player for the 2015-16 season. Dru Toleafoa of Sydney, Australia attended Brigidine College Randwick.

"I chose Santa Clara, firstly, because of its high level of academics," said Toleafoa. "My goal is to achieve as high as I can in my academics and I believe Santa Clara can help me do that through its great resources and support. I also chose Santa Clara because I believe in the vision the coaching staff has created and I wish to help the Santa Clara women's basketball team become a wining program. I love the family-like environment that Santa Clara creates and I know it will be easy to call Santa Clara home-away-from-home!"

"Dru is a special player and we are unbelievably excited to have her join our Bronco family," said Payne "As a member of New Zealand's National Team, Dru will bring a lot of experience with her to college. She has a tremendous amount of potential and I expect that she will have a huge impact on our program over the next four years."

Toleafoa played club basketball in Sydney for the U18 Bankstown Bruins and was named MVP in 2014. She averaged 18.0 points per game, 9.0 rebounds per game, and 4.0 steals per game. She and her NSW CCC team won the All-School Tournament in 2013. She was a representative for the New Zealand Tall Ferns National Team in 2014 and the Junior Tall Ferns as well.

Off the court Toleafoa was a 2014 House Captain.

Her hobbies include touch rugby, netball, Pilates, boxing, strength and conditioning, and reading.
