Limbers Named Academic All-District

May 22, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's tennis player Christine Limbers was named to the Verizon Academic All-District VIII at-large third team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Limbers was one of eight tennis players named to all three teams, which included 33 female student-athletes, representing 21 different institutions. The at-large category includes female student-athletes in the following sports: crew, gymnastics, skiing, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, water polo, field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, golf and rifle.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or an important reserve and be in at least their second season at their current school. Limbers is set to graduate this spring with a degree in communications, where she currently carries a 3.61 GPA.

A total of 112 eligible student-athletes were nominated by 35 different schools on the District VIII ballot. A complete list of this year's teams will be available on CoSIDA's website in the near future.

For Limbers, a native of Carefree, Ariz., it is one of many honors she has received this season. She earned the Bronco program's first West Coast Conference Player of the Year award and also earned first team All-WCC singles and doubles honors. She has led the Broncos the past four seasons at the top singles and doubles spots.

Additionally, Limbers closes her career with the most combined doubles victories in Bronco history. She also surpassed the 60-win plateau in singles, and finishes her career third in the Bronco listing.

Limbers was voted most valuable player by her teammates earlier this week, while also receiving the James D. Farwell Award from the athletic department for combining academic and athletic excellence.
