SANTA CLARA, Calif. - At the close of the Spring 2003 quarter, Santa Clara University had 11 of its sports team's finish with a grade point average of 3.0 or better. The women's tennis team dominated in the classroom with a combined grade point average of 3.63, as seven of their student-athletes maintained a GPA of 3.5 or better.

"I am very impressed with my team's academic success," women's tennis head coach Aby Ryan said. "A 3.63 GPA is outstanding by itself, so to have that as a team average is phenomenal. They work extremely hard to keep their grades up; even on our road trip to Hawaii they had voluntary study hours."

The women's cross-country team placed second as they totaled a 3.42 GPA, with the men's cross-country team and softball squad tied close behind at 3.29.

The women's basketball team was also recognized for their outstanding achievements in the classroom as they closed out the spring quarter with a combined average of 3.25.

Volleyball, women's crew, men's tennis, men's water polo and both golf teams also completed successful quarters as each team finished with a combined GPA of 3.07 or above.
