Women's Tennis Falls to Wyoming 4-3

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Santa Clara University women's tennis team lost a close 4-3 battle to Wyoming this afternoon in Portland. The Broncos' record is now 2-4, while the Cowgirls' record improves to 4-3.

Santa Clara's freshmen tandem of Erika Barnes and Kelly Leathers won on the second doubles court, 8-4 over Karolina Rowinski and Amy Senko. The Cowgirls took the match on court three, forcing the doubles point to go to the winner on court one. Broncos Catherine Cochrane and Casey Knutson battled from a 7-3 deficit, but fell in a tiebreak 9-8 (4).

Doubles play made the difference as both teams split the six singles courts. Janalle Kaloi led the Broncos at the top spot, recording a come-from-behind victory over Patricia Chien, 2-6, 7-6 (6), 7-5. Knutson and Kimberly Daniel also earned points for Santa Clara.

The Broncos remain in Portland and will play the host Pilots on Sunday at 10 a.m.
