Broncos In Davis For WWPA Showdown At Aggie Shootout

March 30, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team will be in Davis, Calif. on Saturday March 31 and Sunday April 1 for the Aggie Shootout. Fresh off their 13-9 victory over the University of Maryland last weekend at Stanford, the Broncos (14-10) will look improve upon their amazing 9-2 record against opponents from the Western Water Polo Association when they meet four WWPA teams this weekend.

First up for the Broncos will be rival UC San Diego at 11:45 a.m on Saturday morning, the only ranked opponent Santa Clara will face this weekend. Ever since the WWPA Championships last year, the Broncos have had the Tritons number, defeating them not only in the third place game in 2006, but then again in 2007 at the UC Irvine Invitational by a score of 10-9 in overtime.

On offense for the Broncos, senior Andrea Evans has been on fire, scoring 11 goals in her last five games, including four-goal performances against Cal State Monterey Bay and Maryland. With the help of Emily Bonk, Amy Lamb and Katie Radvanyi, the #17 Broncos offense will look to upset the #15 Tritons for the second time this season.

Sunday's action begins with the first meeting of the season between Santa Clara and Cal State Bakersfield, and concludes with a rematch against Colorado State, whom the Broncos also defeated at the Slugfest, by a score of 11-4.
