SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team returned to action Saturday against #13 ranked UC Santa Barbara after a two week layoff. The teams squared off at San Jose State University, and the Gauchos were victorious by a final score of 9-4.

"It was a tough game," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "Santa Barbara is a good team and it was a physical game. We could have done a little better job on our six on fives, and we weren't too bad on defense. They pretty much beat us by just a goal or two each quarter."

Brianna Anderson led the scoring for the Broncos, scoring two goals. Seniors Andrea Evans and Katie Radvanyi each added goals, and Radvanyi also notched an assist and had a steal. For Evans, she extended her goal-scoring streak to six games, dating back to March 25 against Maryland.

Claire Linney added two kickouts drawn and Kristin Barnes had eight blocks in the cage.

"After two weeks off, today was a good reminder of what we need to work on," said Wilbur. "We'll come back tomorrow against UC Santa Cruz and try to do better."

Sunday, the Broncos host WWPA rival UC Santa Cruz at Malley Pool. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
