Broncos Down Cal State East Bay 16-7

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team played their first game of the day Sunday at Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif. In what was their second meeting of the season, the Broncos prevailed once again in dominating fashion, this time by a final score of 16-7 thanks to a four-goal performance by Claire Linney.

For the game, Linney led the Broncos with her four-goals, and also notched an assist, had a steal and drew two kickouts. Next in line was Emily Bonk, who scored two goals.

It was truly a team win for the Broncos who received goals from a total of 12 players, though ten of them just scoring one: Jenny Knutson, Meg Zimmerman, Katie Radvanyi, Andrea Evans, Mele Rehder, Liz Perry, Brianna Anderson, Kaylie Pezutto, Amy Lamb and Keely Baldwin.

With her goal, Andrea Evans extended her goal-scoring streak to eight games, while Linney became just the fourth Bronco to score four goals in a game, joining Evans, Anderson and Amy Lamb.

On defense, the Broncos took care of business. Randahl Capurro started the game for Santa Clara and recorded four blocks and a steal, and in the fourth quarter, was replaced by sophomore Katie Gilmartin, who had one block.

Next up the Broncos travel to Stockton to face the University of the Pacific at 3:00 p.m.
