Broncos Defeat Sonoma State 13-9

April 21, 2007

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team travelled to face the Sonoma State Seawolves for the two teams' third encounter of the season. The Broncos earned their third victory over the Seawolves in 2007, a 13-9 decision in which Andrea Evans scored three goals and extended her goal-scoring streak to eight games.

On offense, the Broncos brought another solid performance. In addition to Evans' hat trick, senior Katie Radvanyi and sophomore Amy Lamb each scored two goals, while Emily Bonk, Meg Zimmerman, Liz Perry, Claire Linney, Brianna Anderson and Allie Lamb each added goals.

"It was a tough game, and they (Sonoma State) are a good team and they played really well at home," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "We played well too. I was pretty happy with how we played on defense. We had a lot of good steals which helped to get our counterattack going."

The Broncos only led by one goal at halftime, 4-3. In the third quarter, the Broncos extended their lead to 9-6. Sonoma State kept pressure, scoring three goals in the fourth quarter, but the Broncos scored four of their own to account for the final 14-3 margin.

On Sunday, Santa Clara will face Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif. at 11:00 a.m., before travelling to Stockton, Calif. to take on Pacific at 3:00 p.m.
