Broncos Give Great Effort In Season Finale

STOCKTON, Calif. - Behind a career-best game from freshman Kate Rodman and solid play in the net once again from senior Grace Kavanagh, Santa Clara women's water polo closed out the regular season by giving No. 16 Pacific everything they could handle in a hard-fought 12-9 loss on Friday afternoon.

Rodman scored four goals, nearly doubling her goal count for the year (five entering today) and also came away with a pair of steals. Mia Battilega added a pair of goals and an assist while Kelly Frumkin had a hand in two assits and one goal. Maddie Clough and Elle Fredrickson also found the back of the net.

Kavanagh started in the goal for the second-straight game and played every minute while making six saves.

The game was a battle from fight to finish with Pacific holding a slim 6-5 advantage at the halfway point and 9-6 after three periods of play. Frumkin scored on the opening possession of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit down to 9-7, however the Tigers scored three-straight to open the game up. Rodman and Battilega scored a goal each in the final 3:30 in the comeback attempt, but ultimately the Broncos came just short of picking up their third win in league play as they closed the regular-season 7-19 and 2-5.

Pacific (12-10, 6-1) was led by Mariana Duarte's game-high five goals. The Tigers were 3-for-3 in penalty shots in the winning effort.
