FRESNO, Calif. - Patrick Terry's pinch-hit three-run homer in the eighth allowed Santa Clara to realize an improbable eight-run comeback against Fresno State Tuesday. However, Isacc Vivas answered for Fresno State, homering on the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth to give the Bulldogs a dramatic 10-9 win.
Santa Clara had rallied from a 9-1 deficit, using its potent offense to out-hit FSU 20-10. Curtis Wagner went 5-for-6 and scored twice. Tommy Medica went 4-for-6 with a pair of runs scored.
The Broncos (5-5) had their four-game winning streak snapped. SCU is playing eight games in 10 days, preparing to co-host the five-team Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament with San Jose State this weekend.
Three walks and a Kenny Wise three-run homer were part of a six-run Fresno State sixth inning, which broke open a close game and allowed the host Bulldogs to take what appeared to be an insurmountable 9-1 lead.
Wise finished the day 2-for-4 with four RBI helping Fresno State (6-6) rebound from its disappointing weekend series with Oregon. The Bulldogs were swept on their home field in four-straight.
