Men's Golf Places Third at WCC Championship

COPPEROPOLIS, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team placed third at the West Coast Conference Championship, led by juniors Michael Nicoletti and Eric Lillibridge, who tied each other for 11th place after both carded 223 totals, just seven strokes over par.

The two-day event was hosted at Saddle Creek Golf Club in Copperopolis, a par-72 layout playing 6,826 yards. Santa Clara navigated the course over the past two days in 891 strokes, with rounds of 291, 297 and 303.

Pepperdine won its seventh straight conference title with an 18-under performance. The Waves' squad took four of the top five places individually. Saint Mary's placed second, 14 strokes behind Pepperdine. Portland (917) and San Francisco (920) rounded out the top five.

Nicoletti carded a 76 and Lillibridge a 78 to earn the 223 and an 11th-place finish. Sophomore Jong Yoon also finished in the top 15, placing 14th with a 224, after carding a 75 in today's final round. Senior John Colyar placed 16th after posting the team's low score of the day, a 74. Senior Jonathan Edwards tied for 17th one stroke behind Colyar's total.

Saint Mary's Joe Lanza earned individual medalist honors, besting Pepperdine's Brian O'Flaherty by two strokes with a 208 total, eight strokes under par. Seven golfers completed the tournament with under-par scores.

The Broncos will close out the regular-season slate with participation at the U.S. Intercollegiate, hosted by Stanford University, on Saturday and Sunday.
