The Santa Clara University men's golf team opened the 2004 fall season with participation at the Gold Rush California Collegiate Showcase, hosted by UCLA at the PGA of Southern California Golf Club in Beaumont. The Broncos are in 22nd place after the first two rounds of competition.

Santa Clara played team rounds of 311 and 300 on the Legends and Champions courses. Both play to a par of 72, with the Legends course a 7,303-yard layout, and the Champions course measuring 7,223 yards. SCU is 20 strokes over par in the 30-team all-California team field. Host UCLA leads the team competition following an 11-under par 565 performance. Stanford is in second, just one stroke back, followed by Cal Poly and UC San Diego, who are both tied at four-under.

The Broncos are led by Blair Myers, who finished his rounds with a seven-over 151 and tied for 82nd in the field. John Colyar is only one stroke behind his teammate, tied for 87th at eight-over. Jong Yoon is also in the top 100, tied for 95th place with a 153. Jonathan Edwards is at 155 and Eric Lillibridge is at 157.

Cal Poly's Travis Bertoni is atop of the leader board for the individual competition, after carding a 65-68--133, 11 strokes under par. San Jose State's Justin Madison is just two strokes back. Twenty-six other competitors turned in scorecards with below-par scores.

The Broncos will conclude action at the Showcase Saturday morning with the third and final round. Santa Clara will tee off on the Champions Course starting at 12:10 p.m.
