SOLVANG, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's golf team wrapped up play in the Ogio Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, hosted by UC Santa Barbara, on Tuesday afternoon, finishing 18th with a combined score of 876 (298, 286, 292). Senior captain Jong Yoon led the Broncos with a 42nd place finish, while freshman Jimmy Cacho turned in a team best round of 68 in his second round Monday.
It was a difficult first day for Santa Clara, who came in 18th after the first 36 holes on Monday afternoon. Cacho's second round of 68 offset his first round 75 and tied him with Yoon, who shot 73 and 70, respectively, to lead the Broncos on the first day of play.
But consistency has not been easy to come by this season, as two good rounds have always seemed to yield third which the Broncos would like to have over again. After a first round of 80, Garrett Logan came storming back with second and third rounds of 74 and 73, while Scott Travers shot a second round 77 in between rounds of 73 and 72.
The Broncos have just one more tournament before the WCC Championships, which are just under two weeks away, scheduled for April 16 and 17. Next week, Santa Clara will have their final tune-up at the Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz, beginning Monday, April 9.
