SANTA Cruz, Calif. - Jimmy Cacho turned in one of his best performances of the year with a top-20 finish at the 62nd Annual Western Intercollegiate which ended Thursday. Cacho led Santa Clara to an 11th place finish in the 16-team field. The Broncos shot a combined final round of 301 to finish the tournament at +67, edging out San Jose State.

"From tee to green, I don't think anyone played better than us this weekend," said assistant coach Bill Johnson. "The whole tournament we just collectively could not read the greens. They put the flags in some very difficult positions."

Cacho's final round 73 was one of the better rounds of the day, even eclipsing the eventual top two finishers. Cacho finished at +13 for the tournament and tied for 17th place. The winner, Jack Newman of Michigan State won with a score of four-over par for the tournament. Cacho had a steady day composed of two birdies and five bogeys.

Scott Travers finished his tournament with a round of 77, seven-over par. Travers managed to avoid the double-bogeys that had plagued him earlier and went two-over on his back nine. Travers ended up tied for 41st with a score of +19.

Jonathan Keane recovered nicely from his second round yesterday. Keane shot a five-over 75 for the second best round of the day for Santa Clara and finished the tournament tied for 50th at 21-over. Alex Bon tied Keane for the tournament after his final round of 76. Bon was looking to tie Cacho with a 73 before a triple-bogey derailed him two holes before he finished.

Tim Lynch started his day with three straight bogeys, but pulled it together to par the next six holes in a row and finished his day with a birdie for a 77 on the day. Lynch finished tied for 57th at +22.

The Broncos will play in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz. in two weeks, which will be their final tournament before the WCC Championships the week starting on April 14.
