Final Results

Fairfax, Calif. -- The Santa Clara men's golf team stayed put at 11th place today to finish the Alister Mackenzie Invitational with a combined score of -4. The Broncos finish came in a 16 team field and they finished 15 shots ahead of rival San Jose State. Sophomore Jimmy Cacho was the top finisher for Santa Clara with a tournament score of -7 and finished tied for 8th.

"The conditions were a little tougher today as the scores showed," said head coach Robert Miller. "We had a solid start but we stumbled a little bit in the stretch. But at least we've been putting ourselves in good position which is something to build off of."

After finishing the first two rounds at -9 and tied for third individually, Cacho took a step backwards today, shooting a two over 73, but still recording the best tournament score for a Bronco this year.

Sophomore Scott Travers put up a 70 in his final round today, bringing his final score to -4 to tie for 18th. Travers was +2 after the first hole of his back nine before turning in three birdies to finish off the day. In five rounds so far this year, Travers has yet to shoot over par.

"Jimmy and Scott have been playing very solid this year," said Miller. "We've gotten some good results out of them."

Junior Jonathan Keane turned in a respectable 72 today. He was -2 through five holes before bogeying six and then two more on his back nine to end up at +1 for the round and +2 for the tournament, tied for 45th.

Tyler Ichikawa had a tough final round, bogeying six holes with just one birdie to finish the day and the tournament at five over par. He finished the tournament in 58th place.

"This was another good experience for Tyler," said Miller. "He got to play in a quality tournament against quality teams."

Senior Tim Lynch turned in a final round 77 to finish the tournament 17 over and in 79th place.

"We're putting ourselves in a good position, we just need to finish," said Miller.

The men are back out on the links in competition at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Tournament starting Monday, October 15.
