CHOUDRANT, La. --Just 24 hours after flash flood and tornado warnings prevented Santa Clara from getting underway at the Squire Creek Classic hosted by Louisiana Tech, the Broncos will head back to the Bay Area having played just one round. Tuesday, Santa Clara posted a combined score of 308, good for 18th.

Monday morning, the team was up and out to the course early in the morning only to learn that they might not be able to play. It had been sprinkling during the early morning hours, but the threat of the severe weather which came through later in the day postponed the start of play. The torrential rain and thunderstorms that hit the Gulf Coast region Monday caused everyone to wait until Tuesday morning before tee-ing off.

And when Tuesday morning came, there was no chance of completing the usual 54, or even 36 holes. Instead, only 18 were played, and Santa Clara was led by senior Jong Yoon, who shot a 73, just one over par. Junior Tim Lynch was only three strokes behind at 76, and Blair Myers came in at 78.

Weather conditions aside, playing just the single round at the Squire Creek Country Club was a difficult task. The Bermuda grass on the greens was something Santa Clara had not been accustomed to. It made reading the greens extremely difficult. But all was not lost. The Broncos did get to practice in the rain, and experience the extremes Mother Nature had to offer.

Now, the Broncos will return to the Bay Area and prepare for the Santa Clara Invitational, which will be held at Silver Creek Valley Country Club, which begins Monday, October 23rd.
