SCU Men's Soccer Hosts Exhibition Saturday Night vs. Cal Poly

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University men's soccer program opens the 2012 season with an exhibition match against Cal Poly Saturday night at 7 p.m. on the Broncos home field at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Single-game tickets for Saturday night's match are on sale now. Fans can purchase tickets online, over the phone at 408-554-4660 or at the SCU ticket office. Season tickets for all 10 home games start at $50 for adults and $35 for youth and seniors. The SCU athletic department is also offering a season ticket 'Family Plan,' which includes five tickets to every home game for just $100.

Fans can also watch every SCU home game, including Saturday's exhibition with Cal Poly, live on SantaClaraBroncos.com All-Access.

Santa Clara has a storied soccer tradition, having won four of the last nine West Coast Conference (WCC) titles – part of a remarkable run of 23 winning seasons in the past 25 years. In 2011, the Broncos posted the best overall record in the WCC (11-5-4) but just missed qualifying for the NCAA tournament, despite winning five-straight to close out the season.

SCU Hall of Fame Head Coach Cameron Rast is armed with a number of accomplished returning players, highlighted by one of the nation's top forwards, Erik Hurtado. Midfielders Carlos Montes, Glenn Vass and Wes Culver (pictured), along with back-line returners Gabriel Romero, Mark Daus and Phillip Muscarella gives SCU a proven group of core players.

Rast – who has moved into second all-time in WCC coaching victories (60-29-19) – also added an outstanding collection of new talent. The next generation of Broncos, who will debut Saturday night, ranked No. 7 nationally among all incoming recruiting classes by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Cal Poly lost six All-Big West Conference players from its 2011 roster, but does return five starters. The Mustangs – who last qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2008 - went 6-9-3 overall and 3-6-1 in the Big West last season. Cal Poly and San Francisco played to a 1-1 draw in exhibition play last week in San Louis Obispo.

The Broncos start their regular season schedule Aug. 24 when they battle local rival Cal at Buck Shaw Stadium. SCU defeated last season in Berkeley 4-1. The Golden Bears are receiving votes in the 2012 NSCAA Preseason Poll. In fact, three of SCU's first four opponents appear among the NSCAA's Top 25, including Duke (receiving votes) and No. 3 Creighton.
