Erik Hurtado Earns WCC Men's Soccer's Top Weekly Honor
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference has named its men's soccer Player of the Week for October 1, 2012.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ERIK HURTADO, SR., F, SANTA CLARA

Santa Clara preseason All-America forward Erik Hurtado is the West Coast Conference Player of the Week. Hurtado scored two goals last weekend as the Broncos opened up WCC play with a 2-0 win over San Diego and a 1-0 victory over Loyola Marymount.

Hurtado has netted three consecutive game-winning goals for the Broncos, who have won four straight contests. It marks the fourth time during his outstanding collegiate career at SCU that Hurtado has been named the WCC Player of the Week. Last season Hurtado was named the WCC Player of the Month for September, was named a First Team All-WCC player for the second time and earned recognition on the 2011 NCAA Men's Division I NSCAA All Far-West Region Teams.

The senior from Beaverton, Ore. has upped his season goal total to seven and moves into a tie for sixth all-time at Santa Clara in career goals (25).

"Anytime you get Erik (Hurtado) one-on-one with cover we are always going to be excited, whether something comes of it or not," SCU head coach Cameron Rast following Friday night's win over USD. "There are very few guys in the country that can do what he does in a one-v-one situation and I think that is why he is special."
