Santa Clara 70, Ball State 69

Dec. 31, 2005

Recap |  Final Stats

Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson

On the flow of the game:
"In the first half, I thought we actually had very good execution even though the stats didn't show it. I thought we were getting good looks. We were getting open looks. We were executing our sets very well. Our shots just weren't falling. That's when we need to focus on our defense and our rebounding. This was kind of an up and down game. We took the lead. Then we lost the lead. I thought our girls did a pretty good job of keeping focused and finishing out the ball game and did that."

On Kayla Huss' game-winning last shot and the overtime period:
"Unbelievable. People go their whole careers not making a shot like that. And, Kayla has done it something like four or five times now. In the overtime, one thing that definitely hurt us was that we gave up offensive rebounds in very crucial moments. That was a key factor for them. We regained the momentum in the end, then we executed that last play as well as we possibly could have."

On team's momentum due to a win streak at the end of the non-conference schedule:
"Obviously, we do have a little bit of momentum right now. Our defense in half-court is really what we focus so much on and it is becoming more consistent. That's probably what I am most proud of right now. That is what we need to do in order for us to become successful. We just need to keep working on rebounding."

Senior guard Kayla Huss

"I think most of the time (as the game is winding down) I am just watching the clock as I come down the floor and as soon as there are a couple of seconds left, I just let it fly. I was trying to get some contact by (the Ball State player) wasn't going to foul me so I just threw it up and it went in."

"This was a pretty sloppy game for us. It was pretty up-and-down. I feel like we weathered a lot of storms. The main thing is that we stayed together and came out on top."

"We have one more game on the road at Fresno State. I'd say right now we are on an upswing as we go into conference play next week."
