Broncos Drop Another In Final Minute

Final Stats

MISSOULA, Mont. - Nobody can say that the Santa Clara women's basketball team is not exciting to watch. Tuesday night the Broncos played in another nailbiter that came down to the final minute, but for the fourth time this season they dropped a contest by five or less points. This time it was an 82-77 decision that eluded them against the University of Montana.

Despite a career night from forward Ashley Gonnerman, who scored 27 points, pulled down five rebounds and blocked a pair of shots, the Broncos (2-6) could not hold off the second-half charge of the Lady Griz (5-2), as Montana overcame a six-point deficit with 11:28 to play.

Tracey Walker posted her second consecutive 16-point night to go along with six rebounds while Michelle Cozad added 14 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for the second-straight game.

But Santa Clara could not overcome the play of Montana's trio of Katie Edwards and Mandy Morales, who each scored 18 points, and Jody McLeod, who dropped 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. From being down 59-53 with 11:28 to play, these three accounted for 23 of the Lady Griz' final 29 points.

The Broncos finish off their two-game trip Thursday night against the Eastern Washington Eagles in a 7:05 p.m. tip-off in Cheney.
