Chihab, Manalang Lead List of Eight Women's Rowers Named Academic All-WCC

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Eight Santa Clara women's rowers were honored on the West Coast Conference All-Academic lists, as announced Thursday by the league office. Leila Chihab and Irish Manalang were named all-academic with Valerie Bright, Brianna Hillman, Skyler Kriese, Hope McGowan, Eulalie Plecq, and Jiana Serpa bringing home honorable mention.

The sophomore Chihab, named All-WCC earlier this month, has a 3.71 GPA as a Biochemistry major and Irish Manalang, also a sophomore, has a 3.87 GPA in Computer Science.

Bright, also a 2018 All-WCC pick, is a senior with a 3.34 GPA in Biochemistry. Hillman, a junior, is majoring in Psychology with a 3.52 GPA. A sophomore, Kriese has a 3.38 GPA in Environmental Studies. McGowan and Plecq, both juniors, have 3.54 and 3.31 GPAs and major in Economics and Marketing, respectively. Senior Serpa has a 3.29 GPA in Accounting.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team. 70 WCC student-athletes met the academic criteria for women's rowing this year.
